5 Week Parenting Course

Parenting ADHD Kids

Week 1 - Psychoeducation on ADHD & Executive Functioning
Week 2 - School Success Strategies
Week 3 - Behaviour Management & Collaborative Problem Solving
Week 4 - Emotional Regulation
Week 5 - Interpersonal & Social Functioning + Revisiting Topics/FAQ

This will be a psychoeducational / lecture-style group. That means parents cannot share identifying details about their children and seek specific clinical advice. Because of this, it does not need to be supervised and would not be covered by insurance. If the parents want specific clinical support, they can request an individual therapy session.

Week 1 - Psychoeducation on ADHD & Executive Functioning

Learn more about the ADHD brain and the executive functioning skills commonly affected. Learn how to identify what lagging skills are underlying the difficult behaviours you are seeing to gain a greater appreciation of how ADHD is affecting your child.

Week 2 - School Success Strategies

You will learn more about executive functioning and how these skills are relevant to learning and school success. We will learn some practical strategies for supporting reading, writing, and math.

Week 3 - Behaviour Management & Collaborative Problem Solving

We will learn about how to use collaborative problem solving to improve challenging behaviours. You will learn about how to give praise, enforce consequences like time outs, and use rewards programs to shape behaviour.

Week 4 - Emotional Regulation

We will learn more about how the ADHD brain manages emotions. You will learn strategies to help prevent meltdowns, but also teach your child how to cope with big emotions when they inevitably show up.

Week 5 - Interpersonal & Social Functioning & Revisiting Topics/FAQ

We will understand how symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity can affect your child's success with social interactions. You will learn practical strategies to help them be more successful socially. There will also be time to answer your questions or address other topics the group wishes to know more about.
